Lyman Foundation History

The Lyman Foundation was named in honor of the late Officer Gary Lyman. Officer Lyman became associated with Burger Students and staff through his visits to the program. He held the first golf outing in 1979 to raise money for community experiences. That event was carried on by his fellow officers, his widow Kathy and his family.

Today, a group of staff, Burger families and the community carry on his work. The Lyman foundation was established in 1996 and is a registered non-profit organization. The Lyman Foundation also helps facilitate public awareness of autism through participation in national and local autism awareness events. It works to ensure that every student has the opportunity to become an integral member of his/her community.

The Lyman Foundation works with the Burger Autistic School Association (BASA) to improve the facilities at the schools. The Lyman Foundation has provided funding to multiple projects, family outings, classroom needs, and many many more! To date, the Lyman Foundation has provided over a half a million dollars in support of Burger School.
